I Love WordPress Workshop in Detail
April 23, 2008
So what exactly is going down at the AMIS I Love WordPress Workshop on Saturday, April 26? It’s going to be an intimate shindig with the open source world’s most flexible blogging/CMS platform. The essential breakdown of the workshop will look like this:
- The basics - what the hell is WordPress and why am I here? An introduction to the platform.
Installation recommendations, overview (note: installations will already be completed, but we will go over how to do this on your own) - What’s in WordPress - posts, pages, categories, templates, plugins, themes, etc……
- Using WordPress - writing posts, pages, changing the theme, working with plugins, navigating your way around the UI, etc……
- Advanced WordPress lessons - working with “The Loop,” writing custom queries, working with template tags.
Now, this is subject to change. The workshop is slated from NOON until 3:00pm, but it may end sooner. It depends on how things go, how many questions people have, and how much YOU want to learn. You are welcome to bring your own laptop. Come out and you’ll learn something! To register for the workshop, please e-mail Anthony Bubel at yesterday@temple.edu.

It’s finally here. After months of hard work from our dedicated web team, the AMIS site is now live. With enhanced features, more content, a clean look, and a WordPress-powered content management system, our new online digs are better than ever. Please note that additional content and page development is still being worked on; from this point, all web projects will be headed by next year’s Webmasters, Jeffrey Pan and Thomas Steigerwald.
A special recognition goes out to the following individuals who dedicated their time, skills and effort to the new site. Jeffrey Pan - ‘The Theme Manager’. Uchenna Oguekwe - ‘The Page Maestro’. Julia Plekhanova - ‘The Plugin Queen’. Anthony Bubel - ‘The WordPress Junkie’.
MacBook Air First To Be Compromised In Hacking Contest
April 1, 2008
Multiple readers have written to let us know that the MacBook Air was the first laptop to fall in the CanSecWest hacking contest. The successful hijacking took place only two minutes into the second day of the competition, after the rules had been relaxed to allow the visiting of websites and opening of emails. The TippingPoint blog reveals that the vulnerability was located within Safari, but they won’t release specific details until Apple has had a chance to correct the problem. The winner, Charlie Miller, gets to keep the laptop and $10,000. We covered the contest last year, and the results were similar.
NVIDIA’s GeForce 9800 GTX officially launched
April 1, 2008
If you checked into those NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX benchmarks and felt they met with your high standards, now you can actually get one (or a bunch) into your rig. According to reports, the brain-laser of a graphics card can now be had (in various iterations) for the low, low price of $329.99 (at least from Newegg). And before you ask — Crysis: Yes. Doom: Yes. Overlords: Welcome. Will blend: Yes. Russia: Benchmarks you.
